Make an Embroidered Flower Brooch
Lay out three different spotted fat quarters, with right sides facing down. Iron fusible webbing to the wrong side, and using the Flowers Layers die, cut one shape from each fabric.
Working with one medium-sized flower piece, work chain stitch (see How To…) along the centre of each petal in pale blue embroidery thread, adding a single bead at the outer end of each. Work blanket stitch around the outline of the petals, using yellow thread.
Hand sew green and blue seed beads to the centre of the smallest flower piece. Place the flowers into position (see photo for correct order) and secure with small hand stitches. Stitch a brooch pin to the back of the work to finish.
Create a Folded Flower Brooch
Lay out four different spotted fat quarters, with right sides facing down. Iron fusible webbing to the wrong side, and using the Flowers Layers die, cut two small, one medium and one large shape; using a different fabric for each.
Working with one small flower piece, stitch three small beads to each of the petals. Fold the outer edge of each petal over to the wrong side so that it is doubled over and secure.
Place all of the flower pieces together (layering them in size order, with smallest at the front) and pin. Sew a pale blue button to the centre of the blooms, using embroidery thread and working through all layers to hold in place. Stitch a brooch pin to the back of the work to finish.
Make a Tea Pot Coaster
Cut four squares of fabric, each approximately 15cm square (two spotted and two plain). Use a warm iron to fix fusible webbing to the wrong side of each. Use the butterfly die to cut a shape from the centre of one of the plain fabric squares – keep both the square and the butterfly.
Cut three 4.5cm squares from the second spotted square, and from them diecut the letters T, E and A using the alphabet die, once again making sure to keep both the squares and the cut-outs.
Create a reverse appliqué. Place the large square with the central butterfly cut-out on top of one of the spotted fabrics, with right sides of both facing upwards. Fuse the two together, then work a line of running stitch around the edge of the butterfly in yellow embroidery thread.
Use the fusible web backing to fix the smaller squares (with letter cut-outs) onto the top left corner of the large reverse appliquéd square. Work a zig zag or overlock stitch around the edge of each small square, to fix them into place and prevent fraying.
Stitch an appliqué detail. Place the butterfly cut-out onto the second 15cm plain fabric square, and fix into place using the fusible webbing that was applied in step 1. Work an embroidered cross stitch detail in the corner of each wing using pale blue embroidery thread, as shown.
Lay the letter cut-outs onto the top left corner of the square, and fuse into position. Work over each letter with a hand running stitch, using yellow embroidery thread as shown. Trim the edges with ribbon and join the two pieces together with blanket stitch.
Lay a 15cm length of spotted pink ribbon along the top and bottom edges of the square, placing them 5mm from the edge. Secure using a straight machine stitch. Finally place the two halves of the coaster wrong sides together and secure by working a blanket stitch around the edge of the coaster, using blue embroidery thread.
Stitch a Baby Grow
Lay out four different printed fat quarters. Using the smallest of the Squares die set, cut one square per letter needed for the name design. Work a line of running stitch around the outer edge of each and set aside.
Back the remaining fabric with fusible webbing. Using the alphabet die, cut out the letters needed for the design using contrasting colours. Fuse the letters on to the squares, as shown.
Pin each of the squares into place, as pictured. Cut a small piece of wadding for each square and push it into place beneath each shape. Sew around the edge of each square to secure.
Back several small pieces of plain fabric with fusible webbing. Using the flowers and hearts dies from the alphabet set, cut several different embellishments, using two colours of cotton fabric. Fuse the shapes onto the onesie, as pictured.
