### Maths Cubes

##### Accessories

Sewing these arithmetic accessories from Chloe Hailwood will be as easy as one, two, three, well: one, two, three, four to be exact. That’s because in just four simple steps, you can create an invaluable learning tool that will awaken your little one’s inner Einstein. Made with super-soft cottons and toy filling, these practical additions to the playroom are suited to all ages, and you even have the option of expanding your collection with a set of lettered blocks.

##### Essentials
1. Fabric: three assorted patterned cottons, 25cm x 45cm Felt, assortment of colours
2. Fusible interfacing
3. Toy filling
1. 5mm seam allowance used throughout, unless otherwise stated.
1. Download and print the templates from sewmag.co.uk. Using the square template for each cube, cut out six squares. Press the fusible interfacing to the reverse of the felts and mark the numbers and symbols to the paper side. Flip the number templates over to the reverse before marking. Cut out two plus symbols, then position one at an angle for the multiplication sign.

2. Remove the backing paper from one batch of numbers or symbols. Position each in the centre of a square and press on a medium heat to bond, using a pressing cloth to protect the felt. Flip the squares over and press on the reverse. Repeat with all of the pieces.

3. Lay four of the squares flat in a vertical line. With right sides facing and adding in one square at a time, stitch the shapes together into a neat row. Press and lay flat again. Create a cross shape by laying the two remaining squares on either side of the second square down from the top. Sew these two squares to either side of the second square and press.

4. With right sides together, bring the left raw edge of the top square together with the raw, top edge of the square to the left and below it. Stitch together and repeat for the opposite side. Bring the bottom squares of the cross up and sew the corresponding edges together until there is just one side remaining. Leave a 7cm gap along this side for turning though. Turn through to the right side, gently pushing out the corners. Fill with stuffing and ladder stitch the gap closed. Press each side to neaten and finish.
