Essentials
- Fabric, cotton print
- Medium weight interfacing
- Fusible adhesive sheet
- Button
- Bamboo knitting needle
Prepare interfacing by snipping into a square and ironing adhesive sheet onto each side. Do not peel away the backing paper at this stage. Cut two pieces of cotton print into slightly larger squares and fuse to the interfacing one side at a time. Use pinking shears to trim the edges of the squares in line with the interfacing.
Find the centre of the square by creasing diagonally in each direction and make a mark. Use sharp scissors to cut along the creased diagonals, stopping 1cm from the centre mark on each side. Poke a pin into each right-hand point of the windmill, about 6mm in from the tip and working around the square. Push the pin through the centre mark to bring the points to the middle.
Stitch through all layers several times to hold the four arms of the windmill in place before removing the pin. Take a coordinating button and sew this over the raw points at the centre to neaten. Attach the fabric windmill to the top of a 5mm wooden knitting needle, just below the stopper, by stitching through the back of the windmill and around the stem several times before fastening off.
