You can be our Dressmaker of the Year

Fancy becoming the next stitchy super star? Well here’s how you can!

If you’ve been inspired to create gorgeous garments and think you’ve got what it takes to become our champion dressmaker then we want to hear from you! Whatever your fashion passions, this is your chance to shine in one of four tailor-made categories. In association with Brother and Create and Craft TV, Dressmaker of the Year promises to be one of the most thrilling DIY couture events in the calendar!

Four easy to enter categories

1 Ready to wear
Home-made garments that suggest an ‘off the rack’ look, but with a high level of comfort, quality and ease of wear factored in.

2 Vintage
From the flirtatious frocks of the 40s to the exaggerated lines of the 80s, we want to see your custom takes on retro makes.

3 Customising
Flaunt your upcycling skills by showing us a garment you’ve given a new lease of life.

4 Children’s wear
Tiny tees, kiddie capes or junior jumpsuits - here’s your chance to show your miniature makes to a whole new audience.

Meet the judges

Stuart Hillard
Since appearing on The Great British Sewing Bee, Stuart has become a global stitching ambassador, Sew columnist, author and regular on Create and Craft TV

The Fold Line
Kate Underdown and Rachel Walker co-run inspirational sewing community, The Fold Line. They spend their days searching out the newest patterns and coming up with great blog and video content to keep visitors inspired.

Jennifer Ward
Sew’s very own editor Jennifer Ward will also be overseeing all of the fantastic entries we receive. She’s fully prepped with her crafty knowledge and passion for clothing and vintage gems.

Sarah Crosland
Editor of Dressmaker Sarah Crosland will be joining the rest of the judging panel to decide who will be crowned Dressmaker of the Year!

Win!
There’s a fantastic host of prizes up for grabs, including a Brother Innov-is F420 sewing machine, an Adjustaform mannequin and lots more! Plus, you and your garment will be featured in print, online and on the Create and Craft TV Channel.

How to enter
Simply take a clear photo of your garment against a plain background and enter by email to dressmaker@makeittoday.co.uk or via social media at www.makeittoday.co.uk/dressmakeroftheyear. All entries must be received by 9th March 2017.
