Hair Clip Dolly
Dolls Home makes Quick makes
Organise bows, bands, barrettes and beyond with our Hair Clip Dolly. If your little one loves accessorising with pretty clips, you’ll know the struggle that comes alongside it – how to store them? Chloe Hailwood’s organisation solution is a win-win: a loop of ribbon on the back means you can hang her up in a child’s bedroom, doubling as adorable décor. Tailor the fabric and yarn colour to match your own little one’s appearance, then secure it on the wall at child-height so they can tidy away their own clips at the end of the day, and practise plaiting hair, too!

Download and print the templates from sewmag.co.uk. Press interfacing to the reverse of half of the skin toned fabric. From the templates, cut out two head pieces and two body pieces. Trace the face template onto tracing paper using the transfer pencil. Pick up the interfacing backed head piece and lay the marked side of the tracing paper down centrally on the right side of the fabric. Press until the marks are transferred to the fabric. Embroider the face over these marks using small running stitches. Use a soft colouring pencil to lightly colour the cheeks.
Use the head template to cut out a piece of wadding. Tack this to the reverse of the embroidered head piece. Lay the second head piece on top of the embroidered one, right sides facing. Sew all round, leaving an 8cm gap along the top of the head. Remove the tacking and turn through to the right side through the gap. Press and close the gap with ladder stitch.
Stitch the pom pom trim along the front of one body piece. Use the body template to cut out a piece of wadding and tack to the reverse of the pom pom body piece. Lay the second body piece directly on top of the pom pom piece, right sides facing, and stitch all round leaving a 10cm gap along the top. Turn through to the right side, gently pushing out the corners and press. Close the gap with ladder stitch.
Position the head on top of the shoulders and hand stitch together. Stitch through the reverse side, just along the top of the body piece and back of the head. Cut multiple lengths of wool yarn, each measuring about 1.2m. Fold each piece in half and hand stitch one at a time along the hair line, making a few small stitches only at the fold to hold in place. Bring the hair on either side together roughly at ear height and tie into bunches with ribbon. Secure this to the head with a few stitches to the reverse on both sides. Trim the hair evenly at the ends and secure a ribbon loop at the top of the reverse of the head for hanging.
