Mark those magical milestones with our Photo Discs. Mark baby’s progress with the help of these fun circles from Carolyn Letten. Created with simple fabric piecing and machine embroidery, you just place one next to your little one and take the shot. There is even a little felt pocket on the back of each disc to pop a mini photo in with any extra details, so you can treasure those precious first moments forever. This set also makes a beautiful new baby gift!

Essentials
  1. Fabric, assorted cottons
  2. Felt, various colours
  3. Heavy weight interfacing
  4. Cream pompom trim
  5. White tissue or thin paper
  6. Acid-free glue stick
    1. Download and print the templates from sewmag.co.uk. Cut out four 13cm diameter circles, one from each of the coordinating fabrics. Trim four 11cm diameter circles from interfacing, then iron onto the middle of the wrong side of the fabric circles. Snip the remaining border in 1cm intervals almost up to the edge of the interfacing. Glue around the edge of the interfacing, fold each tab in turn over onto the glue and allow to dry.

    2. Cut several 7cm circles from the fabrics and arrange them on the right side of the four covered circles, remembering to leave a 1cm overhang. Use the picture as a guide so that some overlap each other and the others are only part circles showing. Use acid-free glue to secure them, allow to dry, then stitch around the edge of the circles with contrasting thread. Snip into the overhang as before and secure the tabs onto the wrong side with glue.

    3. Using the templates, trace each phrase onto white tissue or thin paper and pin onto the middle of each covered circle. Cut one piece of felt, or two if using two shades of the same colour, and lay them under the tissue. Machine stitch over the tracing once then tear the tissue away. Fill in the letters by repeatedly sewing up and down until each letter is filled using navy thread. Sew an outline around each word in a cream thread. Carefully trim away the excess felt around each word, leaving a 2mm to 3mm border.

    4. Cut out four 11cm diameter circles from the interfacing and four 13cm circles from cream patterned fabric. As before, cover the interfacing, cut 1cm snips into the overhang and fold the tabs over, securing with glue and leaving to dry. Onto the backs of these four circles, cut and stitch a felt pocket using the template provided.

    5. Sew around the edge of each of the eight circles in a contrasting thread, 2mm in from the edge. Glue a length of cream pom-pom trim onto the underside edge of each disc front, then apply dabs of glue onto the underside of each of the disc backs and place them onto the backs of each disc. Hold together using clothes pegs until dry.
