Leafy Table Set
Home makes
Give teatime a colourful boost with these coordinating coasters and placemats by Carolyn Letten! Inspired by the beautiful shape of the Monstera house plant, the felt table accessories are simple to create and easy to wash, making them great for protecting your table from messy spills. You can even practise your free-motion embroidery with the decorative stitched veins.
Essentials
- Wool felt, shades of green
- Water-soluble pen
Make a coaster
1 Download and print the templates. Using a water-soluble pen, trace a small leaf onto green felt and cut out. Pin or glue it to a darker shade of green felt and trim, leaving a large border.
2 Machine-sew around the leaf, 3mm in from the edge, then stitch over the traced vein details, using two lines of thread. Trim the dark green backing felt to create a 5mm border around the leaf.
Sew a placemat
1 Download and print the templates. Using a water-soluble pen, trace and cut out the left side of the large leaf from a darker shade of green felt, and the right side and appliqué details from a lighter shade. Pin or glue the two halves together onto the darker green felt and trim, leaving a large border.
2 Machine-stitch around the leaf, 3mm in from the edge, then sew a second line next to it. Stitch the traced central and side vein details, using two lines of thread on the sides. Secure the appliqué details onto the left side of the leaf. Trim the dark green backing felt further to create a 5mm border around the leaf.
