Necklace
Secure a piece of fabric into the embroidery hoop. On the right side of the fabric, draw around the template supplied with the 29mm button kit (see Sew smart tip), making sure that a flower design is centred within the template. Prepare a beading needle by pushing on one aqua seed bead. Stitch onto the fabric in the centre of the circular template. Repeat to form a circle of beads. Fill remaining area with gems stitched on randomly. Cut out the beaded circle and fit it over the coverable button, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
To create beaded loops around the edge of the buttons; thread a beading needle with knotted cotton and pass it through the fabric so that it is secured at the back of the button. Thread nine aqua beads onto the needle and bring it back through the fabric, 3mm along, to create a small stitch. The beads will form a loop on the outer edge of the work. Repeat until the whole edge is covered.
Select different sections of the fabric and cover both the 19mm buttons and the 11mm ones. Cut the metal shank from the back of each of these buttons with wire cutters.
Earrings
Place fabric into the hoop, as before. Draw around a 19mm button template, placing it centrally over a flower design. Sew five aqua beads to the centre of the flower motif. Cut out and fit over the cover button.
Sew a row of single beads around the edge of the button, leaving 3mm between each one. Sew on a second row of beads by working alternately through the centre of one of the beads in the first row, then through an extra seed bead, back through the next existing first row bead, and repeating until the whole edge has been covered.
Work a third row by repeating the process above, threading your needle alternately through the second row beads and an extra (third row). Clip the metal shank from the back of the button using wire cutters, and glue on the clip-on findings. For smaller earrings, repeat process, but only sew one row of beads around the edge.
Brooch
Place a piece of fabric into the embroidery hoop, as before. Draw around a 38mm button template, making sure to place it centrally over a flower design. Securing the knot on the wrong side, sew an aqua bead over each petal printed on the fabric within the template marking, until you have a pleasing arrangement.
Cut out the design and fit over the covered button, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Thread 11 aqua seed beads onto a beading needle. Working from front to back, create loops as for the necklace, making sure to use 11 beads on each one, leaving a 3mm gap in between. Repeat until the edge is covered.
Remove the shank from the button, and glue on a brooch back. Cut a circle of felt to cover the back, and glue in place, cutting a slit in the felt for the brooch pin.
