Make a farmer

1. Download and print the templates. Trace the pattern pieces onto the reverse of the fabric and cut out, leaving a 5mm seam allowance. Cut a face, hands and feet from plain fabric. Snip body and arm pieces from patterned fabric. Sew the hands to the bottom of the arms and legs. Stitch the arms right sides together in pairs, leaving a 3cm gap in the top back of each one. Turn out.

2. Sew the feet to the bottom of each leg and pair up the body pieces right sides together. Place the arms on each side of the body, matching the raw edges and sew all round, leaving a 4cm gap in the side for turning. Do not turn out. Sew the two head pieces together, turn right sides out and insert inside the body, matching up the neck edges. Attach the head to the body with a back-stitch. Turn the body right sides out. Stuff the head and body, fold in the raw edges of the gap, then oversew closed. Stuff the arms and close the hole.

3. Sketch features onto the face with a soft pencil. Use two strands of embroidery thread to sew a mouth using a whipped back-stitch. Sew the eyes with a satin stitch edged with a whipped back-stitch. Make the hair by crocheting a chain of 34, turn and work dc into each stitch. Make five chain picots into the front loop of each dc, turn and work four chain picots into the back loop of each dc. Pin and hand-stitch the hair around the back of the head so the ends represent sideburns. Cut a right angle triangle of patterned fabric with straight sides of 13cm. Zig zag stitch along the sides. Turn in and topstitch, then tie around the neck.

Stitch a hat

Download and print the templates. Cut two brims and two crowns from patterned fabric, leaving a 5mm seam allowance. Sew the brims right sides together around the outer edge. Turn out and press. Topstitch around the brim. Sew the darts in each crown piece, then stitch the crowns right sides together around the top. Turn out and sew the lower edge of the crown inside the brim.

Sew dungarees

1. Download and print the templates. Cut dungaree pieces from patterned fabric, leaving a 5mm seam allowance. Sew each leg right sides together along the inner and outer edges, leaving the gusset unstitched. Zig zag stitch around bottom of each leg. Turn up and hem. Turn one leg right sides out and slip inside the other leg, matching up the gussets. Sew along the gusset to join the legs together and turn out. Cut a 9cm length of elastic and zig zag stitch to the back of the waistband, stretching the elastic. Turn in the top of the trousers and pin.

2. Cut two strips, 2.5cm x 15cm and fold right sides together lengthways. Sew down the long seam and across one end at an angle. Turn out with a loop turner and press. Snip and pin two bib pieces right sides together inserting a piece of piping in each top corner. Sew around the bib leaving the lower edge open. Clip corners, turn out and press. Place the bib at the centre front of the dungarees and topstitch in place as you hem the top of the trousers.

3. Cut two pocket rectangles and fold in half right sides together. Sew around the edges leaving a small gap on one edge for turning. Turn out, then turn in the raw edges and press. Pin the pockets to each side of the front of the trousers so they form a tunnel large enough for the doll’s hand to slip into. Oversew the pockets in place, gathering the bottom edges at the same time.

Make the bag

1. Download and print the templates. Trace the template pieces onto fusible appliqué sheet and snip out roughly; do not add a seam allowance. Fuse each piece onto the reverse of patterned fabric and refine the cutting out before peeling away the backing paper. Snip fabric, 27cm x 32cm. Arrange the appliqué pieces on this centrally, tucking the horns and ears behind the head. Place the nose over the bottom of the head and forehead. Fuse the pieces in place.
