About this pattern

The Sewing Bee fashionista, Chinelo Bally, shows us how to make an obi belt in simple steps. This project is easy, versatile and just what you need to completely transform a boring dress or a bland top. Chinelo told Sew Magazine: "I love fitted clothes, but let’s be real, sometimes some unruly extra inches around the waist won’t let you get away with the more figure hugging garments; that’s where beauts like an obi wrap belt save my day." Try wrapping it around a loose fitting top or dress to create the illusion of a smaller waistline. Use this belt to inject some vibrancy and fun into your outfit.

Essentials

  • African print fabric 114cm square, Interfacing, fusible lightweight

    1. Gather your materials. Press an 114cm square of printed fabric. Line up the selvedge with the raw grainline to create a 90° bias fold. Cut out two bias strips 25cm wide that run through the length of the fold.

    2. Repeat with lightweight
