    Create a Cameo

    1. Apply fusible webbing to the wrong sides of a scrap piece of patterned fabric and a piece of plain white. Use the largest oval die (657023) to cut a perfect shape from the white cotton. Use a soft pencil to sketch a cameo face inside the fabric oval and backstitch over the lines with a pastel coloured thread. Fuse the cameo to the centre of a lightly patterned fabric rectangle.

    2. Draw a larger oval onto the rectangle so the cameo sits in the centre. Cut the same shape from wadding and sandwich this between the printed cotton and a rectangle of felt. Backstitch the two layers together using the pencil line as a guide before cutting away the excess fabric with pinking shears to leave a serrated border.

    3. Quilt the cameo by sewing two lines around the centre oval with coordinating coloured embroidery thread. Take the webbing backed scrap fabric and die-cut several leaf designs from it (657017). Flip the fabric over so that some motifs are mirror images of others. Fuse the leaf shapes to the frame of the cameo and secure with tiny running stitches.

    4. Take some lightweight patterned lawn and die-cut several flower shapes (657016) from it. Gather the centre of each flower by pulling a ring of running stitches tight. Stitch the flowers to the frame of the cameo. Sew on a rhinestone to the centre of each and add a few pearls to each arrangement of blooms.

    5. Take two pieces of ribbon, layer and stitch the centre of the length to the back of the cameo frame. Carefully knot the ribbons together one each side of the pendant. Crimp the raw ends of the ribbons in clamp ends, trim away the excess and fix a fastener to the clamps.

    Stitch a Brooch

    1. Iron fusible webbing to the wrong side of a piece of patterned cotton and piece of plain white. Die-cut a large oval from the patterned fabric (657023) and a frame from the white (657014). Use a soft pencil to write your message in the centre of the frame and sew over the lines with backstitch. With an iron, fuse the frame to the middle of the fabric oval and add decorative borders of stitching in other colours.

    2. Cut a 6.5cm diameter circle of patterned fabric and layer onto a similar disc of felt. Iron the oval to the middle of the circle and then quilt through all layers around the border of the frame to give a padded effect.

    3. Take lace of differing widths and stitch layers around the edge of the circle, ruching it as you go to create an elaborate vintage effect. Neaten the reverse of the brooch with a second circle of felt and sew a brooch finding to the centre.

    Finish with a Bird Cuff

    1. Iron fusible webbing to the wrong side of two contrasting patterned cotton pieces. Die-cut three birds (657008) from the lighter of the two and three frames (657017) from the other. Fuse the birds to the middle of each frame.
