Essentials

Fabric, fat quarters, printed and plain
Felt: apricot, lilac
Cushion pad, 42cm square
Embroidery thread: pink, dark teal, orange, grey, purple, green
Bias tape, pink
Button, large Elastic cord, white, 18cm
Medium weight, iron-on interfacing

Download and print the templates from sewmag.co.uk. Cut green button print, 27cm x 47cm. Using pink thread, stitch a length of pink bias tape across the long top edge, then iron on the reverse. Snip flesh fabric, 11cm x 26cm. Back it with medium weight iron-on interfacing. Trace the words from the template onto white tissue paper and secure it with washi tape. Using dark teal thread, sew over the words. Tear the paper away, then stitch over the words again. Iron on the reverse.
Cut out the sewing machine from the template provided, then cut out a slightly larger rectangle of apricot felt. Use washi tape to hold the template in place to the right of the writing, then secure the piece of felt underneath. Use orange thread to sew the outline and details. Trim away the excess felt close to the stitching. Add further details to the needle and dials using grey thread. Snip a small piece of lilac felt, place it as the bobbin on top of the machine, then use purple thread to add detail across the bobbin and down through the needle.
Place the panel centrally on the green button fabric, 3cm down from the top edge of the pink bias binding. Using green thread, stitch around it twice just in from the raw edge. Iron on the reverse. Cut sewing notion print, 47cm square and lay right side up. Lay the button section right side up across the bottom half so the side and bottom edges align. Sew a 5mm seam down both sides and across the bottom.
For the cushion back, cut green button print, 9cm x 47cm. Snip a second piece, 25cm x 47cm. Pin right sides together along the 47cm width. Insert a loop of elastic cord in the middle so the raw ends stick out. Stitch a 1cm seam across, fold the fabric over, then iron and topstitch close to the fold. Iron the wall hanging, but do not iron the elastic. Cut pink fabric, 38cm x 47cm. Fold one raw 47cm edge over twice by 5mm. Sew the seam then iron.
Lay the sewing notion fabric square right side up, lay the green button section across the top of the square right sides together, then lay the pink section across the bottom of the square right sides together. Stitch a 1cm seam all the way around the cushion. Trim excess fabric from the corners and turn right side out. Iron the fabric, then hand sew the button in place. Measure the size of the cover and stitch an equal border all the way around to make the pad fit.
