About this pattern

Upcycle the sleeves from an old knitted jumper or cardigan with our gorgeous duo of embroidered poppy sprays to wear on the second Sunday of November.

We have two styles for you to choose from – one featuring a large solitary bloom, and the other showing a group of flowers. The designs are worked in a mixture of satin, running and chain stitch. Remember these motifs could also be used to decorate socks or the hem of a jumper, scarf or hat to wear on the day.

Essentials

  • Old knitted cashmere jumper or similar, or readymade fingerless mittens
  • White tissue paper
  • White cotton thread
  • 10cm embroidery hoop
  • Yarn: DK, red, dark red, green, dark green and black, small amounts
  • Tapestry needle

    Top sewing tip

If the jumper sleeves are narrow, make a thumbhole on the side seam instead. Simply leave a gap on the side seam when sewing up.
