Floral Mug Cosy
This lovely mug cosy by designer Sophia Palmer is a great way to keep your cuppa cosy while you're busy whirring away on the sewing machine. Perfect for beginners and experienced sewers alike, it features simple quilting techniques and a practical elasticated loop at the button fastening.
Essentials
- Fabric: floral; solid pale pink
- Thermal wadding
- Elastic, 5mm wide
- Button
1 Download the template above. Cut one long pill shape each from floral and plain pink fabric, plus a third from wadding. Layer the floral outer onto the wadding with the pink piece on top, right sides together, and pin.
2 Place a length of elastic in the centre of the curved ends in between the outer and lining fabrics to form a loop, ensuring it’s long enough to pull to the other end of the cosy around your mug.
3 Sew all around the edge with a 5mm-10mm seam allowance, securing the elastic at one end and leaving a 5cm gap on one of the long edges. Turn the cosy right side out and press.
4 Machine stitch around the outside, right to the edges, closing up the gap as you go; alternatively you can hand sew it instead. Stitch a button at the other end of the cosy, wrap it around your mug and hook the elastic loop over the button.
