- Fabric: printed, assortment; plain, backing
- Wadding
Cut out seven strips from a mixture of fabrics, 3cm x 17cm each. Prepare the binding by trimming four strips, 2.5cm x 18cm. With right sides facing, pin and stitch the seven strips together in turn, taking a 4mm seam allowance. Press all of the seam allowances downwards.
Quilt the layers, place the wadding on the backing square, then lay the patchwork on top with the right side facing upwards. Pin together along the centre of each strip. Sew through all the layers along each seam line. Trim so there is a 15cm square.
Press a 5mm turning along one side edge of each binding strip. With right sides facing and raw edges matching, sew one to each of the top and bottom edges. Turn the folded edge to the wrong side and tack it down. Trim the ends in line with the square and slip-stitch the folded edge to the backing. Stitch the other strips to the side edges in the same way, leaving a 1cm overlap at each end. Trim this back to 6mm, fold under and finish as before. Make a hanger from the binding fabric to finish.
