About this pattern

’Tis the season to spruce up the mantelpiece with Carolyn Letten's embroidered trees.

As the days get shorter, bring a hint of the outdoors in with a triad of trees. Perched atop wooden bobbins, this stitcher’s treat is a great way to flex the capabilities of your sewing machine, too, as the front requires you to get creative with free motion machine embroidery. Go on, let loose!

Essentials

  • Felt, three shades of green
  • Trim: lace, green, rust; printed tape measure
  • Toy stuffing
  • Embroidery thread, brown
  • Wooden bobbins
  • Wooden skewers
  • White tissue paper
  • PVA glue

    Top sewing tip

Trace the template onto the dull side of freezer paper, then gently press this onto the felt with the matte side up using a warm iron. This will make the shapes much easier to cut out.
