Everyone can breathe easy in Amanda Walker’s staple: a smart dress with easy elasticated sleeves, a concealed zip and a shaped keyhole at the front. Constructed with only five pattern pieces, take your time to insert the zip, and the rest of the frock will slip through your machine like a breeze.
Top sewing tip
If you are using a concealed zipper foot, place the teeth of the zip into the groove and, as you stitch, the foot will uncurl the teeth and the stitching will be placed right alongside the teeth. If you are stitching with a normal zipper foot, you will need to uncurl the teeth with your fingertips. It is impossible to stitch to the end of a concealed zip, so leave around 3cm at the base.
