About this pattern

Using just three pattern pieces, this lightweight blouse by Julia Claridge will be a quick and easy make as there are no darts or fastenings to sew and the openings are finished with bias binding. The raglan sleeves are gently gathered, creating a subtle puff sleeve. It’s perfect for layering under a cardi on summer days!

Essentials

  • Cotton lawn, 1.1m (1.5m wide)
  • Single-fold bias binding, 2m (12mm wide)

    Cutting guide

Front: cut one on the fold

Back: cut one on the fold

    Sleeve: cut one pair

    1.5cm seam allowance used throughout.

    Stitch a puff sleeve top

1 Download and print the pattern, then cut out all the pieces according to the cutting guide. Set two rows of gathering stitches within the seam allowance at the lower edge of the sleeve.

2 Match and pin the sleeves to the front bodice piece at the raglan seam, then stitch. Repeat for the back pieces. Match, pin, then sew the underarm and side seams in one continuous line. Neaten the raw edges, then nick the underarm curve.

3 Beginning at a back seam, pin bias binding around the neckline, matching the raw edges. Fold under the ends, then stitch along the binding fold. Turn the binding inside the neckline, then press. Topstitch around from the right side, 1cm in from the edge.

4 Pull the sleeve gathering stitches until the notches are 10cm apart. Stitch across the gathers within the seam allowance to secure, then remove the gathering ones. Bind as for the neckline. Fold a double 5mm hem and topstitch from the right side.
