About this pattern

A great project for beginners, Sophia Palmer's vibrant Nutcracker collection uses that much-loved material, felt.

It’s so easy to cut and sew, and designer Sophia has chosen bold colours for a striking effect. The project features zig zag appliqué, which adds a beautiful finish to bold motifs and is a great skill to perfect. Take your time on corners and curves, always leave your needle down in the fabric and turn it to create a smooth outer line.

Essentials

  • Felt: red, blue, black, grey, pink, yellow, white
  • Pom pom trim, blue, 3mm wide
  • Ribbon, red, 2cm wide
  • Card blank, white

    Top sewing tip

If you like zig zag stitch, use a 3mm width with a 1mm length for a perfect finish. Try on a scrap piece of felt to check you’re happy with the stitch size.
