    Top sewing tip

New to gathering stitches? Practise on a spare piece of dress fabric to get the correct fullness, stitch two parallel lines of long stitches 6mm apart and do not back-stitch the ends, separate the top threads from the bobbin threads at each end, tie off the top threads, then push the fabric along the bobbin threads to the correct width; some machines have a gathering foot that can work a gathered top layer onto a flat bottom fabric at the same time.
