The 12 intrepid sewists entering the sewing room in series 10 of The Great British Sewing Bee have been announced and we can’t wait to follow their journey when the series starts on Tuesday 21st May.
These 12 talented craftspeople have beaten thousands of applicants to be chosen for the show which is, in itself, an incredible achievement. Let’s meet them:
Aisla
Now based in Glasgow, Ailsa grew up in the Highlands of Scotland. She loves to experiment with her sewing projects and has a modern and contemporary style.
Alex
Copywriter and editor Alex lives in Derbyshire and started sewing at a young age when she would make her own cuddly toys. Alex creates comfortable garments that reflect her passion for sustainability.
Comfort
As well as creating gorgeous garments, Comfort also designs her own fabrics and loves batik. A designer and business manager, she started sewing after having her first child.
Don
Don has been sewing for more than 70 years and enjoys making interesting yet simple garments. His mum taught him to sew using a hand-cranked machine.
Georgie
Club and festival DJ Georgia regularly upcycles tablecloths and blankets to make sustainable projects. She also loves to knit.
Janet
Janet is Yorkshire born and bred and enjoys making glam garments for holidays and dancing classes. She’s loving her retirement and when she’s not sewing, gets out the brushes for a spot of oil painting.
Lauren
Singer, sewer and finance administrator, Lauren, takes her project inspiration from the bold aspects of the 1980s. She lives in Manchester.
Luke
Luke works as a diversity, equality and inclusion director. They have been sewing since they were eight years old, after being taught by their grandmother.
Marcus
Marcus loves making stand-out garments and describes his style as jarring, garish or kitsch - we can’t wait to see it. He also enjoys writing, art and building lego.
Neil
At 6’4”, Neil started sewing after being unable to find vintage clothes to fit his height. He works in Leicester as a woodwork instructor and also leads a murder-themed bike tour!
Pascha
Student Pascha is working for a qualification in Psychology and Innovation and loves to sew. She has even made a silk ballgown inspired by Marie Antoinette! Outside of sewing she enjoys growing her own, foraging and fencing (en garde!)
Suzy
Liverpool-based Suzy loves ruffles and statement sleeves, and often sources her material from charity shops, upcycling curtains and bedsheets.
Good luck everyone!
